The historic village of Cygnet will come to life with sound, sights and performances for the annual three day Cygnet Folk Festival from January 11 to 13.
Nestled in the scenic Huon Valley, located just fifty minutes away from Hobart, Cygnet becomes a 'vibrant festival space' with concerts, workshops, jam sessions, markets and a festival parade.
The Cygnet Folk Festival is a 'rich cultural community event, providing entertainment from local Cygnet performers, other entertainers in Tasmania and interstate.
Many dedicated volunteers band together to organise the festival – which was established in 1982 – to create an wonderful event that is pretty impressive for a town with a population less than 1,000.
The festival aims to offer music from a variety of genres including folk, world, ethno, roots, world and acoustic, showcase dance and poetry, engage visitors with workshops, encourage awareness and interest in folk music, provide support for young musicians and foster 'mutually beneficial relationships' with the local community, associations and businesses.
Around 4,000 to 5,000 visitors flock to the festival to watch performances, engage in workshops, dine at restaurants and cafes, and also take some local Cygnet produce home!
A taster of the acts to perform include Queensland celtic four-piece Sanas, one of Australia's 'best known' Indigenous acts Stiff Gins, Brisbane-based bluegrass band The Company, ARIA winning group Zulya and The Children of the Underground and 'modern travelling troubadour' Rory McLeod.
Over 100 acts are expected to perform, with Frank Yamma, The Perch Creek Family Jug Band, Kristina Olsen, Jo Quail and Mal Webb also billed on the festival lineup.
Festival goers are also invited to camp at Burtons Reserve – located on the edge of the Cygnet waterfront – from January 9 to January 14.
Earlybird tickets are on sale now until December 21, with children (aged 5-15) $15 and adults from $90.
